White Rock
The name White Rock comes from the gigantic white glacial boulder found along the 8 km stretch of beach, the rock remains to this day but has to be painted white each year by the city. Along this magnificent beach there is a 2.5 km waterfront promenade complete with tourist shops, ice cream parlors, fish & chip shacks, pubs, and restaurants which serve fresh caught seafood. This promenade is the focal point of the community and is also home to the famous 1500 foot long pier in which tourists and locals enjoy fishing off of and walking on. There are many beautiful places in the Lower Mainland to watch a sunset but many think White Rock is the most breathtaking of them all.
Most of White Rock's residents commute to Surrey, Richmond, and Vancouver for work as there is not a large business or commerce area in the city. The town centre has a few apartment buildings which on the ground floor of house the majority of the city's stores, shops and services. These apartment buildings are very few as most of White Rock's residents live in single family homes as well as large stately mansions that are mainly found along the Surrey border.
